Barbara Jean Hughes Turner died September 13, 2024, in Orem, UT with her family present.
Barbara was born October 30, 1932, in Woodland, California to parents Charles Arthur Hughes and Eleda Belle Roos, the youngest of six living children. The family moved to northern Idaho when Barbara was five, she grew up in Orofino, Idaho, and graduated from Orofino High School in 1950.
She then went to Brigham Young University and there met and fell in love with Norman. C. Turner and they were married on March 2, 1953, in the Salt Lake Temple. They lived in various places as Norman served in the U. S. Army and finished his education. Their four children were born during that time.
In 1970 they bid a fond farewell to San Diego and returned to BYU and made their home in Orem, where they lived for 44 years, before moving to a condo in American Fork. Barbara was a member of the LDS Church and served in many callings in the Relief Society, Young Women, and in music callings. In 1983 she served as a companion to her husband in the Italy Catania Mission where he was President. Barbara loved music, reading, and her family.
She is survived by her children Gary (Nadine) Turner, Douglas (Lori) Turner, Michelle Turner, and Lisa (Tony) Strickland. 13 grandchildren and their spouses and 38 great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held at Wheeler & Sundberg Funeral Home, 495 South State Street, Orem, Utah on Saturday, September 21, 2024, at 11:00 am. Visitation will be prior to the funeral, starting at 9:30 am.
