Vineyard

Barbara L Gordon, 87, of Vineyard, Utah, passed away, on Thursday, July 4, 2024. She was surrounded by her children and loving husband from Alzheimers / dementia.

Barbara Louise Blackwell Gordon was born September 6th 1936 to Rita Florence Marshall and James Charles Blackwell at 186 Haley Road, Forest Gate, London E7,England. This is where her life journey began.

Barbara was the oldest of three children. She was then followed by her sister Rita Margaret and brother Norman James

When Barbara was at the age of 6 she and her siblings were evacuated to the southern part of England. World War 2 had just started and it was a safer place to be for women and children. She and her sister were then taken to a home for girls and separated from her parents due to war time circumstances for a period of ten years.

She returned home at the age of 16 and was by that time already working in London for The Guardian Insurance Company.

At the age of 18 she met the love of her life, Bill Gordon at a dance hall that she frequented with her sister, and the rest is history. Barbara and Bill married 18 months later on July 19th 1958.

She and her husband Bill were living in Hackney London when she had there first child, Elaine Ann. Next came her second while living in Essex, Lesley Jane and then her third daughter Kim Louise followed by there one and only son, Peter William.

In December of 1969 Barbara and Bill made a bold move that would change the course of there lives. They, along with their 4 children, immigrated to the United States of America. They arrived in Southern California December 13th 1969. There they were able to purchase a beautiful new home in Camarillo California and start their new life in America.

Shortley there after they were introduced to the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter- Day Saints and in 1972 were baptized members. On July 19th 1973 they were sealed in the Los Angeles California Temple.

In 1979 they celebrated the birth of their 5th and final child, Ashley Lynn, born in Camarillo, California.

After many years of living in Southern California, Barbara and Bill moved in the early 1990’s to Saint George, Utah and resided there until June 2023 when they moved to Vineyard, Utah.

Barbara was a faithful member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints and served in various callings including Primary President and for many years a Temple worker. Barbara and her husband, Bill, served a full time mission in Novosibirsk, Russia from 2004-2006.

Barbara was an energetic, organized, meticulous homemaker. She took a lot of pride in what she did and it showed in her home. She always had a homemade warm meal for dad and the family and a tidy home. She loved books and loved to read mystery novels. She was an amazing Knitter and made many items including baby clothes for her grandchildren. She was full of joy and big smiles and always up for a chat with anyone including workers at the bank and grocery stores. She was very engaging with her British accent and warm smile.

We will miss her gorgeous smile, her blue sparkly eyes and her friendliness to everyone she met. She was most definitely without guile.

Barbara is proceeded in death by her parents and daughter, Kim Oberg, Mandee Oberg (granddaughter), and Riley Marz (great-grandson).

Barbara is survived by her loving husband Bill of 66 years, children; Elaine (Jeff) Marz, Lehi Utah, Lesley (Bill) Moore, Orem Utah, Peter (Suzanne) Gordon, Springville Utah, Ashley (Yai) Ningcharoen, Eagle Mountain Utah. 36 Grandchildren, 57 Great Grandchildren, and 3 great-great Grandchildren.
