Barbara Chynoweth

June 19, 1928 — September 22, 2022

Lindon, Utah

Barbara Everitt Chynoweth, 94, of Orem, passed peacefully away in the early morning hours of September 22, 2022. She was born June 19, 1928, in Provo, Utah, to Elwyn Clyde Snyder and Myrtle Vivian Hemmelwright. She married William Riley Everitt on April 8, 1946, in Hamilton, Montana. They were later sealed in the Manti Utah Temple on July 2, 1963. He preceded her in death on January 21, 2006. She was a widow for 7 years and then married Donald A. Chynoweth on December 21, 2013. He preceded her in death on July 28, 2022.

Barbara lived a life of service to family, friends, and neighbors. She was a faith-filled member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. In her younger years, she served in her ward as a Primary teacher and Primary President. During her later years, she served as a Relief Society teacher and ward Relief Society President. She donated her time every Saturday for many years as a temple worker at the Mount Timpanogos Temple. As a great-grandmother, when she could no longer serve at the temple, she returned to the Primary by accepting a call as the nursery’s official baby rocker.

During her early married life, Barbara was a homemaker and stay-at-home mom. As her children grew older, she joined the workforce and loved being a lunch lady at Windsor Elementary where her children attended school. Her fellow lunch ladies became a second family to her. During her summers off, she organized and led girls’ 4-H groups where she taught her daughters and their friends how to cook and sew. She was an avid reader and regularly borrowed books from the library to enhance her education. Even though the only paper diploma she received was from attending high school, she gained more knowledge and wisdom from her constant reading than most university graduates.

Barbara loved life both indoors and out. She excelled at crocheting, sewing, and baking; she also enjoyed gardening, camping, and traveling.

A key role in Barbara’s life was being a rescuer of souls. She understood that life’s challenges come to everyone. She believed that most people are doing the best they can, and her stewardship was to lift and build. She had a remarkable way of influencing others in their efforts to change for the better by offering love and acceptance, gentle advice, and realistic expectations. As an angel of mercy, she was a restorer of hope and a healer of hearts. Her loving influence continues to reverberate through the many hearts she touched.

Barbara is survived by four of her five children: William S. Everitt of Wellsville, UT; Jane Christensen (Steve) of Layton, UT; Peggy Barber (Norman) of Spanish Fork, UT; Judy Chynoweth (Brent) of Orem, UT; Sister, Juanita Adams (Rollin) of Gilbert, AZ. She was preceded in death by her 5-year-old daughter, Nancy Barbara, first husband, William Riley Everitt, and her second husband, Donald A Chynoweth.
