Anthony G. (Tony) Marren died peacefully at his home, with family and friends present, in Orem, UT, on February 15. He was 59. A long-time resident of the Orem/Provo area, Tony was born on December 13, 1956, in Long Island, N.Y. He attended elementary and high school on Long Island. As a young man he was a devoted member of the Boy Scouts of America; in 1975 he was inducted into the Order of the Arrow, the Scouts' national honor society, created to honor Scouts that best exemplify the Scout Oath and Law. After migrating to the Orem/Provo area, he earned an associate of science degree from Utah Technical College at Provo and a bachelor of arts degree from Brigham Young University. He also studied organizational management through the University of Phoenix. Tony held several positions with retail and technology companies in the Orem/Provo area, but his true calling and love was philanthropy and charitable advocacy. In 2008, he founded Operation Just One Can, a now nationally-recognized advocacy organization designed to empower individuals and organizations to support food banks and soup kitchens as a response to the nation's ongoing hunger problem. Tony was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, serving as an Elder. After learning about the church, Tony was baptized in 1978. In 1982 he served a two-year mission in London, England, and was an active member serving in many callings the remainder of his life. Tony is survived by his mother, Therese; his sisters Joanne and Marianne; brothers Ted Jr., Jim, Tom, and Paul, and many nieces, nephews, and cousins. He was predeceased by his father, Ted Sr. Tony was a devoted son, brother and uncle; a loyal friend; a faithful Christian, and a fierce advocate for the less privileged. He will be terribly missed by everyone whose lives he touched. Services for Tony will be held on Thursday, February 18. There will be a viewing at 9:30 am to 10:30 a.m. , with the funeral service following at 11:00 am at the LDS Chapel, 450 S 100 W, Orem, UT. There will also be a viewing Wednesday evening, February 17, from 6 to 8 pm at Sundberg-Olpin Mortuary, 495 S State St, Orem, UT. Tony's friends who attend either the viewing or the service are asked to bring one can or package of non-perishable food to the service, in recognition of Tony's dedication to the cause of fighting hunger. In lieu of flowers, Tony's family requests that donations be made to the Food and Care Coalition, 299 E 900 S, Provo, UT 84606. In addition, Tony's family would like to thank the staffs of Our House in Orem and AFI Advanced Care; Dr. David Garry and staff, and Dr. Nathan Rich and staff for the care and support that they provided to Tony over many months.
