Annabeth Gillman

AnnaBeth Larson Gillman, 97, of Hyde Park, Utah, passed away peacefully on 11 November 2017. AnnaBeth was born on 27 March 1920 in Pleasant Grove, Utah, to Louis Leonard and LeahMargaret Thornton Larson. She was the second of six children.

AnnaBeth attended Granite High School in Salt Lake City. She played the piano for the Boy’s Glee Club and was a member of the Girl’s Pep Club. When she was in seventh grade she met her eternal sweetheart, Wendell Walker Gillman, who was in the eighth grade. They were married 12 January 1946 and later sealed in the Salt Lake Temple. They were blessed with three children, Louis Wendell, Christine, and Kevin James.

AnnaBeth started working in her grandfather Thornton’s Drug Store in Pleasant Grove, Utah, at age ten. She was given various duties to do, some being stocking the shelves and her favorite, driving her Dad’s car to deliver prescriptions to the elderly customers. She also worked for S. H. Kress & Company and the Federal Reserve Bank in Salt Lake City. AnnaBeth received the World War II Honoree, Civilian on the Home Front award when she worked at the Remington Arms Plant in Salt Lake City making .30 and .50 caliber bullets for the military. Being an accomplished pianist, she took great joy in teaching hundreds of children to play the piano. AnnaBeth also taught music at Franklin School, a school for mentally challenged children in Colorado Springs, Colorado.

Her husband, Wendell, served his country by serving thirty years in the U.S. Army, retiring a hero as a Command Sergeant Major at Ft. Wainwright, Alaska. As a result, AnnaBeth presided over all NCO wives. She was in charge of planning numerous parties and events which many military dignitaries attended, and she was adored as the 1st Lady of all NCO wives.

AnnaBeth loved the church and serving people. She served in the Primary, Young Women’s presidency, as a Stake/Ward Relief Society President, and her favorite calling Stake/Ward organist.

AnnaBeth’s greatest joy was her family. She loved attending sporting events, musical concerts, and church activities that her grandchildren and great grandchildren participated in throughout her life. She was a member of the Allegro Chorus in Salt Lake City. She enjoyed clogging and tap dancing and was a member of the Golden Heart Tappers that performed on many occasions in Fairbanks, Alaska. When AnnaBeth was sixty-five years old she found a love for art and became an accomplished artist with oils. She also loved to create beautiful ceramics.

AnnaBeth is survived by a son Louis (Nancy) Gillman, a daughter Christine (Darrell) Murphy, 11 grandchildren, 25 great grandchildren, 13 step-grandchildren, and a sister Leah Gene Rostomily.

She was preceded in death by her parents; brothers, Max, Stanley, and Leonard; sister Kathleen; husband Wendell Walker Gillman; son, Kevin James Gillman; and twin great grandsons, Carter Callis and Bennett Darrell Murphy.

A viewing will be held on Saturday 18 November 2017, from 11:30 a.m. to 12:45 p.m. at the Sundberg-Olpin Funeral Home, 495 South State Street, Orem, Utah. Funeral services will immediately follow at 1:00 p.m. at the funeral home. Interment will be at the Orem City Cemetery immediately following the funeral service.
