Beloved wife, mother, grandmother, sister, aunt, cousin and friend Alma "Honey" Myrtle Farmer Mitchell was unexpectedly called home on April 15, 2015. She was born to Arthur and Mildred Farmer in Albuquerque, N.M., on May 15, 1944. She grew up in Martinez, Calif., and graduated from Alhambra High School. She attended Brigham Young University on a scholarship, where she met Steven Karl Mitchell, thelove of her life. They were married on June 28, 1963, in the Salt Lake Temple and remained faithful and loving companions for nearly 52 years.
Her children could not have asked for a more caring and fun-loving mother. Alma dedicated her life to serving her eight children, her husband and countless others. She joined The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and faithfully magnified church callings, especially visiting teaching. She enjoyed many cherished experiences sharing the gospel of Jesus Christ that she loved and lived. She spent the last six years serving as a missionary, including two years at the Joseph Smith Birthplace Memorial Visitors Center in Sharon, Vermont. She was compassionate, generous, loving,loyal, hard working, creative, talented, determined�� and a catalyst for good.
Along with Steve, Alma won the National Small Business of the Year award in 1975 and several other awards for her business accomplishments. She and Steve also founded American Crafts, withAlma as the company's first designer.
Her greatest joy in life was being a grandma to her 34 grandchildren, spending as much time as she could with them. Her baby rocking and grandma trips were famous.
Alma is survived by her husband, Steven Karl Mitchell; her children, MaryLyn Linge, Jacque Barney (Bryan), RuthAnn Jarman (Kam), Sherri Winkel (Laren), Jeff Mitchell (Amy), Shauna Hunt (Mark), Dave Mitchell (Michelle) and Wayne Mitchell (Britt); her grandchildren; and her sister, Ina May "Midge" West (Stan). Alma was preceded in death by her parents and two grandchildren.
Funeral services will beheld at 1 p.m. on Saturday, April 18, 2015, at the Orchard Stake Center, 810 E. 600 N. in Orem with a viewing that morning at 11 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Interment will follow in the Orem City Cemetery. A viewing will also be held from 6 to 8 p.m. on Friday, April 17, 2015, at Sundberg-Olpin Funeral Home, 495 S. State St. in Orem.
