Alma Theodora Gertrude Naude Jones Doller passed away peacefully at Covington Senior Living in Orem on Tuesday evening, September 6th 2022 at the age of 83. Alma is survived by her husband, LeGrand Alton Doller (Alton) and her daughter, Shannon Jones Anstead.
Alma was born on February 17th 1939 in Durban, KwaZulu Natal, South Africa, the only child to Petrus Johannes Naude and Ilva Camilla Kleudgen. Alma’s home language was Afrikaans, and she received her 12-year education in that language. Alma’s first employment was with the South African Railways and Harbors, after which she worked for 40 years as the personal secretary for the Motor Industrial Council until her retirement in June, 2000.
Alma married Hugh Henry Jones in 1958 in Durban, South Africa, and they were loving parents to their only child, Shannon. Alma and Hugh joined the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints on 26th June, 1960 in Durban, and served in many different Church callings within their small Branches over the years. Hugh passed away on October 31st 1999 at the age of 64.
On April 27th 2000, Alma married Alton Doller, a long standing friend of the family, in Pretoria, Gauteng, South Africa – at which time Alma joyfully inherited a loving extended family to whom she was devoted – namely: Jason Doller (wife Janine and children Jessica, Jasmine, and Jordan); Melissa Doller (Quinn) and children Courtney, Chineade, Liam, and Amy Lee; and, Kari Lin McFarland (children Jerrol and Anastacia). Alton and Alma bought a house in Marble Hall, Limpopo after which Alton was called as a branch president to their Mogopane branch in Limpopo – and to which they had to travel an hour in both directions to attend every Sunday.
On April 13th 2008, Alma and Alton emigrated from South Africa to Orem, Utah, where they bought a home in which they lived for 13 years before Alma suffered a massive stroke. After the stroke, Alma required specialized medical treatment and had to be moved to a long term care facility. After a year Alma and Alton were able to move and be together at Coving Senior Living, where they were residing when Alma passed.
Alma will be buried on Saturday morning, 10th September in a private ceremony at the Orem City Cemetery – after which a memorial service will be held in Alma’s honor for friends and family at 11:00 a.m. at the Aspen Stake Center (828 West 1600 North, Orem), after which a light lunch will be served. In lieu of flowers, it is requested that donations be made to the ASPCA, in Alma’s memory.
Condolences for the family may be expressed on this page.
