Adair Harding

Adair Finch Harding died peacefully at the side of caring family members on April 24, 2017. Having fulfilled her mission on Earth, she returned to her heavenly home and was reunited with her dear husband Fred.

Adair was born November 19, 1927 in Spokane, Washington, as the oldest child to Fredrick and Mary Isabelle Henderson Finch. During early years, she lived in Klamath Falls, Oregon, and Redding, California. After high school graduation, she moved to Seattle, Washington, and worked in various jobs as a typist, a secretary, and a telephone operator.

Later, Adair studied at Brigham Young University in Provo, Utah, with her cousins and friends. It was while working as a secretary at the BYU Photo Studio on lower campus that she met her husband to be. In 1948, Adair married her life-long sweetheart Fred William Harding in the Salt Lake Temple. Together they raised five children.

Adair and Fred built a house in 1955 in the Edgemont neighborhood of Provo, Utah, where they lived the remainder of their lives. Fred was a chemical engineer employed at Geneva Steel for 30 years. Adair was a stay-at-home mother that spent most of her time with the children.

Adair was a life-long member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and served in many callings including primary, Sunday school, relief society, and cub scouts (one of her favorite callings). She served with her husband as a temple worker in the Provo Temple for over 20 years and also during a one-year mission to the Chicago Illinois Temple.

Her favorite things during her life were family, genealogy (especially collecting family histories), reading anything and everything, crocheting, arts and crafts, travel, and watching the grandchildren grow up.

Prior to her death, Adair said that she was greatly indebted to her Heavenly Father for his watchful care over her all these years. She was also grateful for her husband, who really taught her the gospel and was a wonderful father who loved his children, supported her in all her endeavors, and took good care of all the family.

Adair is preceded in death by her parents, her husband, and her sister Frankie (Em) Goodrich of Ephrata, Washington. She is survived by two siblings: Beverly (Bruce) Nilsson of Springville, Utah, and Larry Kerr of Seattle Washington; five children: William Harding of Provo, Utah, Warren (Danetta) Harding of Orem, Utah, Wayne (Susan) Harding of Washington, Utah, Wanda (Kevin) Staker of Fredricksburg, Virginia, and Weston (JoDee) Harding of Lehi, Utah; and by 25 grandchildren and 27 great-grandchildren.

Funeral services will be on Saturday, April 29, 2017, at 1:00 p.m. at the LDS Edgemont South Stake Center located at 2950 North Canyon Road in Provo, Utah. Visiting will be at the chapel from 11:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. prior to the services at the stake center. Burial will be in the Provo City Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the LDS Church Perpetual Education Fund.
